Mike and Rosemary Bauer Central Coast Visions

Mike and Rosemary have been painting together for over 12 years, in addition to their individual art pursuits over the years. They exhibit their paintings both together and separately at various venues including at their home studio/gallery in Arroyo Grande.

Rosemary is a native Californian who in her words “had the good fortune” of coming from a military family. As a result, she moved around a lot during childhood. Somehow, most of the movement was within California, providing early inspiration for the style of art she enjoys making today. Art has been a lifelong passion for her. Rosemary has experimented with various mediums. She is currently painting with acrylics, due to the freedom and versatility that the medium allows. While she sometimes plays with realism and abstractions, Rosemary’s first love is painting landscapes "en plein air" using a fresh and impressionistic style. Her favorite subjects are right here in our scenic Central Coast, where we have so much inspiration, and where she shares a studio/gallery with her artist- husband, Mike. Rosemary has taken workshops with internationally known artists including Marcia Burtt, Debra Joy Groesser, William Hook, Peggy Kroll-Roberts, Ray Roberts and Gabor Svagrik.

Mike has a passion for the outdoors that spans his life. Born in Idaho and moving to California at an early age, he brought with him a love of nature. From being an avid backpacker and rock climber in his youth, to a lifelong pursuit of fly fishing, he has always found himself in the outdoors. It was only natural for him to bring this passion for the outdoors to his paintings. Mike works in pastel, drawn to its intense pigments and spontaneity of application. Taking his inspiration from both what he observes on location, and the work of the early California Impressionists, Mike captures the beauty and the light of the joys found in the California landscape. While Mike describes himself as largely self- taught, he has studied with some of the top artists in his medium including Terri Ford, Albert Handell, Clark Mitchell, Jeanne Rosier-Smith, Liz Haywood-Sullivan, and Richard McKinley.
