June Art After Dark with Julie Dunn

June Art After Dark with Julie Dunn

HumanKind is excited to feature the art of Julie Dunn and the music of Marcus DiMaggio at Art After Dark on June 7 from 6-9PM. Stop by to meet the artist, view her lovely art, and stay awhile to listen to the music of local musician Marcus DiMaggio. Julie’s art will be on exhibit at HumanKind for the month of June.

Marcus DiMaggio

Marcus’ soulful voice lends itself well to the unique blend of acoustic 60s and 70s classics, folk, soul, R&B, and original compositions that make up his entertaining and laid-back style.

Julie Dunn

Julie Dunn is an accomplished artist and art educator with a BA degree in Drawing and Painting, and a teaching credential in Art Education. Her art career has spanned over 35 years. Combining her love of art with teaching has enabled Julie to enhance her own skills while assisting students. Her teaching career took her overseas, where she experienced a variety of cultures and artistic styles, which have greatly influenced her work.

Julie paints in a unique style, known as “Tempera Batik painting on paper”, which is characterized by vivid color, an appealing textural surface, and compelling imagery. Her paintings include California central coast and desert landscapes, flowers, and endangered & exotic species. Admirers and collectors of her paintings find them reminiscent of traditional fabric batiks, silk paintings, woodblock prints, and even stained glass. They also find themselves attracted to the abstract and representational qualities found in each piece.

Currently living in Atascadero, CA, Julie is enjoying her career as a professional exhibiting artist. She loves sharing her specialized technique with others, and offers demonstrations and hands-on workshops. She participates in local and regional art festivals and juried exhibitions, where she has won several awards for her work. Julie co-owned two art galleries in San Luis Obispo, where she exhibited her work for 18 years, and currently she co-owns Park Street Gallery, in Paso Robles, with plein air oil painter, Peggy Turk.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings are a personal reflection of the world around me. I enjoy creating works of art that are inspirational and uplifting. In an era filled with high technology, stress, and an endless stream of “bad news”, I like to draw attention to that which is beautiful and often overlooked, in our fast-paced, modern world.

I consider most of my paintings to be portraits, whether of a particular landscape that I’ve come to love, a gorgeous flower at a certain moment in time, or an endangered species that I’m capturing for all eternity. I present to my viewers a vision of the world as seen through my eyes, in the hope that they will see what I see, and feel what I feel.
