Silence works with artisans who are either visually or hearing impaired or otherwise physically disabled to enable them to become self-sufficient income earners by providing skills training and fair wages.

Ten Thousand Villages is a founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization and a verified member of the Fair Trade Federation. They have partnerships in over 25 countries with over 20,000 makers, sixty percent of whom are women. Ten Thousand Villages aims to solve social injustices through fair trade and prioritizes a triple bottom line of  economic, environmental and social sustainability.
