This item is from Sustainable Threads, a fair trade, eco-conscious company dedicated to promoting handmade lifestyle products made through close collaboration with artisan partners in India. By blending traditional art techniques with modern design, they create stunning collections crafted exclusively from natural fibers. Each product is meticulously handmade by an artisan group, often in home settings or small workshops, using tools and methods that require minimal or no electricity.

Sustainable Threads offers beautifully woven organic cotton napkins through a collaboration with makers from the Rural Craft Group in western India. The Rural Craft Group was established to ensure the survival and sustainability of local and traditional crafts, making them viable and attractive for future generations of artisans. Employing 150 women spinners and 150 individual artisan, the group leverages existing skills in warping, joining, finishing, and natural dyeing of yarn. Located in a drought-prone region, reliable work is scarce, often forcing rural families into nomadic lifestyles. This artisan group provides steady employment opportunities for artisans, helping to stabilize their communities and preserve their cultural heritage.

Artisans receive fair wages, aligned not only with government and market standards but also by consulting with artisans. Artisans are not bound by contracts and may choose to become self-employed entrepreneurs. All artisans receive aid in securing credit, insurance and government entitlements. Training and social awareness programs are provided as well as healthcare support for artisans and their families.
