We love the story behind Mira’s handmade bells, which are from the desert Kutch region of India. Bell making is a traditional art form, which originated from the need to track herds of cattle through remote areas. Each bell has a unique sound so that herders can distinguish their cattle from the other’s. Crafted by hand and simple machines, each bell is made from recycled water drums and other discarded metals.

This bell is from Mira Fair Trade, a member of the Fair Trade Federation that helps their skilled artisans in India– many of whom are women and the economically disadvantaged– obtain financial security and economic independence. They are passionate about preserving the art of traditional handcrafted goods and invest in various community projects for a long-lasting impact.
