Traditionally bell making was for cattle herders to keep track of their cows. Each herder could identify his cattle by the bell tone ringing around its neck. Today, bells ring in cattle herds, temples and in homes but the traditional bell making process is preserved and being passed down to the next generation.
Each bell is made from an old water or oil drum. The metal is cut, rounded into shape and riveted using basic tools. The bell is coated with copper shavings and mud and then submerged into fire to give it a unique look. The last step is to hand tune each bell to perfection.
