According to Aliplano’s founders, the company is dedicated to uplifting indigenous communities, protecting the environment in which they live, and “exploring diversity and the many threads that weave us together.” Their artisans earn fair wages and work together in cooperative groups, small family businesses, or Altiplano’s Guatemala-based fair trade workshop. Women artisans are able to work from home to care for their families. Many artisans have been working with Altiplano since its inception thirty years ago. Their work has supported education, family nutrition, environmental education and reforestation programs.
