Amazon Ecology

Amazon Ecology, founded in 2006 as the Center for Amazon Ecology, is a non-profit dedicated to promoting the well-being of the Amazon ecosystem by empowering its people through sustainable livelihoods and vibrant culture preservation. The organization collaborates with over 200 artisans from 16 native rural communities in the northern Peruvian Amazon, supporting them in sustainably harvesting and marketing non-timber forest products, such as handwoven ornaments.

Amazon Ecology fosters artisan development by hosting skill-sharing workshops, strengthening leadership, marketing and resource management skills and promoting forest conservation. They train artisans in the careful harvesting of chambira palm leaves, encouraging crafts that generate the most income with minimal resource use. Additionally, they reinvest part of their sales to support local health, education, and conservation initiatives, creating a positive impact on both the environment and community.
