This item is from Sustainable Threads, a fair trade, eco-conscious company dedicated to promoting handmade lifestyle products made through close collaboration with artisan partners in India. By blending traditional art techniques with modern design, they create stunning collections crafted exclusively from natural fibers. Each product is meticulously handmade by an artisan group, often in home settings or small workshops, using tools and methods that require minimal or no electricity.

Sustainable Threads offers a collection of beautifully woven napkins through a collaboration with makers from the Women Weaver's Trust in Northeast India. With over 150 indigenous women, this cooperative was established to provide artisans with a steadier livelihood through traditional weaving skills and to expand income opportunities for women. The region faces many hardships, including conflict spanning over a decade and annual monsoon flooding that devastates farmland. Initially a project of a local NGO, the cooperative grew steadily, eventually forming a trust where each woman became a partial owner.

Women receive fair wages for their weaving, along with bonuses and medical coverage. The founding NGO continues to support women without land or permanent homes by offering scholarships for a three to four-month training program that combines academic and practical skills. Participants earn money throughout the program and have the opportunity to join the cooperative upon completion.
