We get this product from SERRV International, one of the world’s first fair trade organizations. Since 1949, SERRV has developed partnerships with small-scale artisans and farmers in over 20 countries throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America. We love buying from SERRV because they pay their partners in advance, support community development initiatives, and believe in preserving the art of handcrafting.
Kantha items are handmade in ten different location in Bangladesh employing more than 1,000 women. Many of these women are widows, single mothers, or heads-or-households. Partnering with these kantha hand-crafters since 2008 has improved standards of living and increased their ability to send children to school. The long term partnership also provides interest-free advanced payments and skill training.
