African Market Baskets

We love the Bolga baskets by African Market Baskets. They are vibrant, durable, and intricately crafted. Made by weavers who are indigenous to the Bolgatanga region of northern Ghana, the baskets are woven together using a technique that has been passed down from generation to generation. The weavers twist, wrap and spiral the elephant grass fibers until a basket forms. The leather handle adds stability to this sturdy basket that is sure to last for years. You can see the full process below. Highly versatile, these baskets are perfect for a picnic, your next farmer’s market outing, or as home decor. We even carry a size that’s perfect for your little one!

African Market Baskets is a member of the Fair Trade Federation. They ensure that the wellbeing of the 5,000 weavers they employ is always at the center of their work. Weavers are paid a fair wage, that they have opportunities for professional growth, and that working conditions are safe. African Market Baskets also donates a percentage of profits toward humanitarian projects, which includes providing school supplies and funding health care for over 1,000 weavers and their families.
