Michelle Patrick has been part of the HumanKind community for years as a loyal shopper and now as a member of our Board of Directors. She believes every purchase can tell a story, support a maker, and make a meaningful impact. Get to know Michelle and what inspires her thoughtful approach to shopping and design.

What's your name and role at HumanKind, and how long have you been part of the team?

I'm Michelle Patrick, and I've been serving on the HumanKind Board of Directors for the past year. I've also been shopping at HumanKind since the very beginning, so it's been a joy to become more involved with the organization.

How would you describe your personal style or taste when it comes to fashion, home, or gifts?

I love beautiful, practical things. I'm especially drawn to pops of color that add personality and life to a space. One thing I know for sure? I hope to never live in a house with white walls again!

What inspires your personal style or gift-giving choices?

HumanKind is my favorite place to shop for gifts. It's a way of opting out of excessive consumerism and choosing something intentional instead. Every gift feels thoughtful because it's been carefully selected, and I love giving something that has a story behind it.

What do you love most about working at HumanKind or being part of the fair trade movement?

If we're going to buy more things, let's buy them with purpose. Every purchase at HumanKind helps support artisans, women, and families around the world. I love knowing that the products we bring into our homes help create opportunities and strengthen communities through fair trade.

What makes shopping at HumanKind different from other stores?

Tim and the entire staff do an incredible job of creating a beautiful shopping experience. The store is bright, welcoming, and filled with color and possibility. I also love what HumanKind brings to downtown San Luis Obispo. It's more than a retail store. It's a place where every visit feels inspiring, and every purchase makes a difference.
